Cardolite Introduces LITE 2100, a Range of CNSL-modified Hydrocarbon Resins for Construction Adhesives
The LITE 2100 series is the first line of products from Cardolite based on cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL) modified hydrocarbon resin technology, a unique chemical platform developed over the past several years. These resins are low color, low viscosity epoxy modifiers for use in protective, industrial, and marine coatings, as well as structural and construction adhesives including grouts, self-levelers, and mortars. Although performance is always first in line, these products have high bio-content due to their CNSL scaffold and can be used to replace aromatic hydrocarbon modifiers based solely on petrochemical phenols. The LITE 2100 series is designed to enable high solids and solvent free formulations by lowering the viscosity of epoxy resins more efficiently than typical phenol based hydrocarbon resins. These resins can also improve overall system compatibility for better film formation and protective performance. Compared with other chemistries, they have less effect on dry time and can increase hardness development of the coating while providing improved flexibility and impact resistance. High hydrophobicity results in excellent water and moisture resistance, and more importantly, excellent corrosion protection on immersed and environmentally exposed surfaces. In Cardolites laboratory evaluations, LITE 2100 series shows good adhesion even to rusted metal and oily substrates. These products have very good UV resistance and impart excellent gloss retention in lighter color coatings. Although classified as non-reactive epoxy modifiers or plasticizers, they provide formulations many benefits without degrading performance as observed with other chemistries.
