Peel adhesion as a function of peel rate, peel angle, and peel temperature
In real world applications, pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) perform differently at varied peel rate, angle, and temperature. This rate, angle, and temperature sensitive nature of PSAs has long been a problem among adhesive formulation researchers, tape and label manufacturers, and end-users. For an adhesive developed in a controlled laboratory atmosphere - under constant temperature, constant humidity, fixed peel rate and angle - how does one foresee its performance in real world applications? Therefore, the influence of peel rate, angle, and temperature on the PSA’s peel force should be further addressed and studied. Additionally, to suit the industry’s need, a user-friendly peel tester capable of testing PSA tapes and labels under varied rates, angles, and temperatures, is necessary.
